Some highlights of recently completed projects are listed below:

(1) Large amplitude flapping of inverted elastic flag for energy harvesting


(2) Vortex-induced vibrations of a sphere free to move in three degrees-of-freedom (3-DOF)

Vortex structures visualized by Q-criterion colored by the streamwise velocity for flow past a sphere which is free to move in three degrees-of-freedom for Re=2,000: Hairpin vortex-shedding mode in the transient phase (top) and spiral shedding mode in the periodic stationary phase (bottom) with the trajectory.

(3) Vortex-induced motion (VIM) of a sphere in one degree-of-freedom penetrating the free-surface

 

Vortex-structures visualized by Z-vorticity on the free-surface and the body-fitted arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian (ALE) movement of the three-dimensional unstructured mesh for the VIM of a sphere penetrating the free-surface.
